The Village on Sage Street: An innovative housing option for low-income individuals in Reno, NV

The Village on Sage Street opened in August 2019 to provide stability through housing to low-income individuals as part of the “Community Foundation of Northern Nevada’s” innovative solutions for housing in the Reno area. This unique facility is comprised of eight modular buildings with 216 small single-occupancy units for individuals that are at least 18 years of age. The Village is primarily designed to serve working people earning minimum wage, or those with other low income. The Village will provide a foundation and stability for its lodgers and contribute to the overall well being of the entire community.

About the Village

• The project is a collaborative effort between City of Reno, Community Foundation of Northern Nevada, and Volunteers of America Northern CA & Northern NV.
• The community is comprised of several pre-fabricated modular buildings with adjacent onsite parking.
• The 216 individual private single-occupancy units include a built-in bed, closet, desk, and flat-screen television.
• The Village also has onsite laundry, meeting and recreation spaces, is Wi-fi compatible, and provides an outdoor gathering area.
• The rental unit rate is $555 per month with a $555 required security deposit.

Qualifications to Apply

• Must be an individual at least 18 years old, and have an income of at least $1,200 per month and not more than $3,465 per month.
• The online form is only for the initial intake and will be used as a pre-application to be placed on the waiting list. (Applicants will be contacted within 48 hours.)
• The full application process will include additional information such as verification of income and a background check.

Activities and Classes

• SNAP Outreach The SNAP Outreach program allows residents to apply and/or make changes to their food stamp benefits without having to leave the Village.
• Mobile One Docs Mobile One Docs medical providers serve as mobile primary care providers for individuals who may not otherwise be able to conveniently leave their home. They accept most insurance providers.
• Insurance Solutions Meet with a medicare service provider to go over the benefits that your insurance has for you.
• Church Service & Bible Study Join Pastor Paul every Sunday for a church service in the dining hall. Bible study to follow.
• Living Stones Social Outreach Join Living Stones once a month to come together as a community. Enjoy dinner and a social event while coming together with others.
